The Road Motorcycle Racing Capital of the World

The TT is celebrating 100 years of Motorcycle Road Racing.
In 1907 the first Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races ( TT) were held. The races took place on 28th of May, 1907 over what is now known as the, Short Course (St Johns-Ballacraine-Kirk Michael-Peel-St Johns). The race was held over 10 laps of the 15 mile 1,430 yards course; a total racing distance of little over 158 miles.

25 riders Starting at 10 am on the 28th of May 1907. The race was for single cylinders 17 starters and twin cylinders 7 starters.
Charles Collier took the overall win at a speed of 38.21 mph with a time of 4hr 08.08.2 , on a single cylinder 3½ hp Matchless
The twin cylinders race being won by H Rem Fowler on a Norton in 4hrs 21;52.8. Although Fowler was overall leader for some time till he was plagued by mechanical problems and then crashed at 60 mph and almost giving up, till told he was leading his class by over half an hour. He put up the fastest lap was of the day at an amazing 42.91 mph
Today they use the Mountain Circuit, a lap of 37.75 miles long . Winding through Towns and Villages of the Isle of Man at speeds of up to 200mph. The roads are normal everyday small town roads with all their pit falls, bumps and lumps. The races are known for the high speeds and the closeness of the spectators. The bikes flying by only a few feet away.

The neck breaking speeds of over 200 mph giving rise to the now lap record in access of 129 mph which surely will be broken this years with some major road works having been carried out over the course. The magic 130 mph no longer looks out of reach for these amazing guys to take their machines. There are No soft walls going through these towns and villages. The lap stretching to 37.75 mile and climbing up the Mountain to over 1400 feet and then back to sea level making the TT the most hairy race around. While up on the mountain the side of the road drops over 500 feet and in the lower reaches the hedges are a solid ten plus feet thick if not just a rock face. This is the ultimate test of Man and Machine and where 50,000 racing enthusiasts will gather for two weeks starting the 25th of May.
